The Best and Worst Parts of Owning A Design Business

On day 2 Design Suite Maker Conference, I met with Brenna Powell, Tracey Rinaldo, Kim Thomas  to talk about the best and worst parts of owning a business.

Brenna Powell says overcoming the fear of whether her work would sell was a big challenge. “When I started Design Suite, I was super nervous because I would post my stuff on Etsy and someone would buy it. And I would be like—Oh they are going to come to me with these negative reviews…I wanted to make sure that I was doing things the right way.”

Design Suite member Kim Thomas says that it is a journey. She says, “I knew that this second year would be all about the business, the marketing, and the sales.”

Tracy Rinaldo says the hardest part of running a design business is staying focused. As creatives, there’s so much we want to do, but to build a profitable business, it's crucial to focus on the right products and activities.
