On day 3 Design Suite Maker Conference, I met with Jalin Bingham, Kristi Rachelle, Emily Fish to talk about their lives as they started their design businesses.
Each of them hosted a workshop at the Design Suite Maker Conference, and I was thrilled to have them share their experiences as design business owners. It was fascinating to explore their unique journeys, which also had some surprising similarities.
During the panel, we found ourselves discussing our children, as each of us has kids who’ve faced challenges at school due to neurodivergent issues like ADHD, autism, mental health struggles, and more.
Understanding the challenges of everyday life gives perspective as you build a business. While creativity and fulfillment are key, involving your family is also important. Kristi’s daughter even steals her iPad and has started her own design business, while Emily’s son works for her. “This is more than me just making cute crafts,” Kristi says. “It’s about creating a legacy for my kids.”
