The Dishing the Tea series is here, and we’re kicking things off with a fun and heartwarming chat! In this first episode, I sat down with my daughter, Felicity, to answer questions about what it’s really like living with a designer, business owner, and mom. This new YouTube series is all about candid Q&A sessions with the people closest to me—friends, family, and colleagues—and what better way to begin than with my own daughter?

What’s It Like Having a Designer Mom?
In this episode of the Dishing the Tea series, Felicity spills all the secrets about growing up in a creative household. From being a “guinea pig” for my latest projects to laughing at my over-the-top crafting moments, she gives you a fun peek behind the curtain.
Here are some questions I asked her:
- What’s it like living with a super creative mom who’s always designing something?
- What’s the weirdest or funniest thing you’ve caught your mom doing in the middle of a creative project?
- Have you ever had to “test” any of her designs or projects?
- What’s something your mom is REALLY good at—and something she only thinks she’s good at?
- If your mom wasn’t a designer or university owner, what would she be doing instead?
Felicity didn’t hold back, and her answers had us both laughing (and maybe blushing a little).
Balancing Business and Motherhood—Or Trying To!
Of course, I had to answer a few fun (and revealing) questions myself. The Dishing the Tea series is all about being honest, so I shared my own struggles and funny mishaps while trying to juggle it all.
Here are a few things Felicity asked me:
- How do you balance being a designer, business owner, and mom—or do you? 😆
- Have you ever gotten so lost in your work that you forgot something important?
- What’s one creative skill your daughter has that surprises you?
- Do you try to teach her design, or do you let her find her own creative path?
- If your daughter took over your business one day, what do you think she’d change first?

Fun, Laughter, and Craft Fails
Because no Dishing the Tea series episode would be complete without a little humor, we wrapped up with some lighthearted questions that had us both cracking up.
- What’s the funniest or messiest craft fail you’ve had together?
- If you had to swap roles for a day—mom becomes the daughter, and daughter becomes the designer/business owner—what would happen?
- What’s one thing the other person always says that makes you laugh?
- What’s the best thing about having each other in your lives?
It was such a joy to share this conversation with Felicity. These are the kinds of moments I cherish—laughing, reminiscing, and connecting over the crazy, wonderful life we share.
