Behind the Scenes: Our Photoshoot

To get ready for the upcoming summits, we scheduled a photoshoot to capture the excitement and energy of what’s to come. Let me tell you, things didn’t go exactly as planned.

I specifically booked a studio with a pink wall. But when I arrived, there was no pink wall in sight! Was it frustrating? Yes. Did we let it stop us? Absolutely not.

We improvised with the other colors available and made it work. Adaptability is key, right? I brought several outfit options to keep the vibe fresh and fun. We also added a sweet touch—literally—with an assortment of treats to use as props. From colorful candies to pastel pastries, they brought an extra layer of playfulness to the shoot.

Despite the hiccups, the photoshoot turned out beautifully. It’s a reminder that sometimes, when things don’t go as planned, they can still turn out better than expected.

The Sweet Life of A Designer Artist Date

Let’s Talk About 2025

The sweet life of an artist date is my focus this year. Life often feels chaotic and hectic, doesn’t it? It’s easy to lose track of time for yourself. But in 2025, I’m changing that.

I’ve started a personal endeavor called my artist date. Inspired by Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way, this weekly practice is my gift to myself. Each week, I’ll take time to explore, create, and enjoy art without any pressure or expectations.

Finding Inspiration Through Artist Dates

These artist dates are all about sparking creativity. Some weeks, I’ll try something new to challenge myself. Other times, I’ll visit a new place or experiment with a medium I’ve never used before. It could even be as simple as sketching outside in the sunshine.

This isn’t about creating something perfect or productive. It’s about reconnecting with the joy of art and letting creativity flow freely.

Kicking Off with Fresh Art

For my first artist date of 2025, I chose to make physical art. As a designer, I spend a lot of time creating digital work. My usual projects are large and often time-sensitive, leaving little room for experimentation or long-term endeavors.

This year, I’m carving out time for projects that may take weeks to complete. I’m also allowing myself to create without a clear purpose—something that feels backward to my usual approach.

Breaking My Own Rules

If you’ve taken my Design Suite program or a business class at the University of Arts & Design, you know I value purposeful creativity. For over 17 years, I’ve built my career around designs that serve meaningful goals.

But I’ve learned that stepping away from that mindset can be refreshing. Creating for joy, not purpose, helps me recharge and reignite my passion for art. It’s where new ideas form, and creativity has the freedom to breathe.

Sweet life of a designer carina gardner artist date joy of art inspiration designer

Overcoming Challenges and Perfectionism

One challenge has been letting go of perfectionism. I rely on digital tools for precise designs, and shifting to physical art feels daunting. Yet, this discomfort pushes me to grow and embrace imperfections.

In my bootcamps, I encourage others to let go of perfectionism (www.designsuitecourses.com/designbootcamp). While I’m not a perfectionist, I tend to be critical of my work. Creating physical art challenges me in new ways and helps me embrace flaws as part of the process.

Sharing Art with My Family

Another reason I love these artist dates is that I get to involve my kids. It’s a chance for us to explore creativity together, especially in ways their school might not provide. While I’m not great at structured art time, these moments nurture their imagination and ours as a family.

Pushing Boundaries in 2025

This year, I’m embracing discomfort to grow as an artist. Physical art feels unfamiliar and messy compared to digital work, but it’s worth the effort. For fine artists who avoid digital creation, I’d suggest trying the thing that feels most uncomfortable—it’s often where growth happens.

Sweet Life of A Designer Barn Office Reveal

It’s 2025, and I’m excited to share something new: building my new barn designer office! This year, I want to pull back the curtain and let you see what it’s like to be a designer, CEO, artist, and creator. Along the way, you’ll meet my team, experience the challenges, and enjoy the sweet moments of my journey.

To kick things off, I’m thrilled to show you a project that’s been in the works throughout 2024: transforming my backyard into a brand-new workspace.

The New Barn Designer Office

I can’t wait to reveal the details of my new barn designer office! This project has been a dream for years. When I started as a designer, my workspace was a tiny desk in my bedroom. (I even went scrolling through my old Instagram feed to find photos, but no luck!)

At the start of 2024, I hired a contractor and dove into permits. By summer, the backyard was a construction zone. We dug up the yard to run electrical and plumbing lines and moved old sheds to make room for the barn.

Getting Started

Early on, we poured concrete for the foundation. I also decided to add an outdoor shower for the pool—a fun and practical touch. The groundwork took up most of the summer, but progress felt rewarding.

In the fall, construction on the barn began. The structure, built from a kit, measures 24 ft by 16 ft and even includes an attic area. Seeing it come to life made all the groundwork worth it.

Overcoming Delays

As with many construction projects, delays crept in. What was supposed to finish early turned into a months-long extension. Still, the excitement grew as the barn took shape. The attic, taller than expected, became a pleasant surprise!

This project is far from over, but I’ll keep sharing updates. I can’t wait to show you the final reveal of my new barn designer office!

Create Your Own Watercolor Sticker Sheet: Step-by-Step Guide

This is an example lesson from my DIE CUT AND 3D DESIGN TECHNOLOGY Class for the University of Arts & Design. Learn more about this class and applying at www.uad.education.

We currently offer:

  • 4 Design Certificates
  • A Master of Arts degree
  • A Master of Fine Arts degree

Tuition and Academic Catalog published at www.uad.education!

Watch the youtube video here or below (link coming soon)

Let’s Get Started!

Creating a watercolor sticker sheet can be a fantastic way to turn your physical artwork into beautiful, tangible products. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the essentials of designing your own watercolor sticker sheet, including tips for spacing, digitizing, and achieving a cohesive look. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just exploring stickers for the first time, this process will help you bring your art to life in a unique way.

Create Your Own Watercolor Sticker Sheet: Step-by-Step Guide Carina Gardner

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
To start, you’ll need watercolor paints, brushes, watercolor paper, and a paper towel. These basics will be your tools for creating individual designs that work together harmoniously on a sticker sheet. For the example I’ll show you, I created this sticker sheet during a Die Cut and 3D Design Technology class at the University of Arts & Design.

Step 2: Plan Your Design
When designing a watercolor sticker sheet, focus on creating isolated images that visually connect. This is where theme and color play a big role. To make the sticker sheet cohesive, keep your color palette consistent and choose designs that share a theme, even if it’s subtle. Think about leaving adequate space between each design, as this will help later when you’re adding die lines in software.

Create Your Own Watercolor Sticker Sheet: Step-by-Step Guide Carina Gardner

Step 3: Leave Space for Die Lines
Spacing between elements is essential. While it might seem like a minor detail, leaving enough space around each design ensures clean die lines. After scanning, you can always make additional spacing adjustments in Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator if needed.

Step 4: Add Fine Details
If you want to add pen details, this is the time to do it. Pen lines can add contrast and depth to your stickers, and for certain projects, it’s a fun touch. While some sticker sheets are entirely digital with added fonts or quotes, physical pen work can bring a handmade feel to the final design.

Create Your Own Watercolor Sticker Sheet: Step-by-Step Guide Carina Gardner

Step 5: Digitize and Refine in Software (not shown in the video)
Once your painting is dry, scan it in to digitize the sticker sheet. I recommend Adobe Photoshop for tweaking spacing and Illustrator for creating die lines. Adjusting the artwork digitally allows for more precision and customization, which is especially helpful if some designs need additional separation or refinement.

Creating watercolor sticker sheets allows you to work in a physical medium while also learning how to digitize art for production. If you’re interested in a more structured approach, my Die Cut and 3D Design Technology course at the University of Arts & Design teaches you how to design specifically for machines like Cricut and Silhouette. For those interested in launching a creative business, check out my Design Bootcamp at designsuitecourses.com/designbootcamp for a comprehensive introduction to building a design business or apply to the University of Arts and Design at www.uad.education.

Designing your own watercolor sticker sheet is a rewarding process that combines artistry with practical design skills. Thanks for following along, and don’t forget to subscribe to my channel for more design tutorials and creative business tips!

5 Essential Hacks for Starting an Art or Design Business in 2025

If you’re dreaming about starting an art business, then this post is for you! Here are the five essential hacks every designer and artist needs to know to launch a successful business in 2025. From planning clarity to leveraging AI, these tips will help you hit the ground running. Ready to dive in? Let’s get started!

Watch the entire youtube video here or just below: (link coming soon)

Hack #1: Planning for Clarity

When starting an art business, having a clear plan is crucial. Many creatives make detailed plans, but fewer plan with the goal of clarity. A mix of daily and dream planning can help keep your creative juices flowing while keeping your goals in focus. Personally, I use the Design Suite Daily Planner to stay motivated and organized. You can find it at designsuitecourses.com/dailyplanner if you want to try it out!

Hack #2: Leverage AI & Automation

As we move into 2025, embracing AI is essential. From Adobe Firefly to Canva’s AI features, the smartest creatives are using AI tools to save time and focus on the creative side of their business. When starting an art business, consider AI to help with repetitive tasks like generating mockups, automating social media posts, or speeding up logo design. Instead of getting stuck in routine tasks, you can focus on what really matters—your art.

Hack #3: Build a Working Digital Portfolio

Building a portfolio is vital, but why not let your portfolio work for you? Sell your designs as you showcase them! Platforms like Etsy and Amazon allow you to sell and gain valuable insights into what works. To learn more about creating a portfolio that sells, check out my Design Bootcamp at designsuitecourses.com/designbootcamp, where we focus on selecting the right platforms for your work.

Hack #4: Embrace Short-Form Video Content

Short-form video is here to stay, and it’s perfect for getting your art out into the world. Platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts are fantastic places to share quick, engaging glimpses of your process. Show off a timelapse, a sketch, or a behind-the-scenes look at your workspace. This type of content is quick to make and, most importantly, shareable. Get your art out there and let it spread!

instagram carina gardner design short form video

Hack #5: Network & Collaborate

Finally, networking is key. Join online communities, attend industry events, or collaborate with other creatives. Networking opens doors to clients, collaborators, and mentors who can help you grow. In the last year, I’ve spoken at over 10 events to connect with others and share my own work. Networking is essential when starting an art business, so put yourself out there!

And there you have it—the top five hacks for starting an art business in 2025! Whether you’re most excited to build a portfolio or leverage AI, these hacks will set you up for success. Design Around the World: A Stunning Indian Wedding at Hayes Mansion

Today, I’m excited to share a unique “Design Around the World” experience at my youngest sister’s Indian wedding. This celebration took place at the historic Hayes Mansion in San Jose, California. From colorful decor to intricate details, it was a designer’s dream—and an endless source of inspiration!

A Family Gathering at Hayes Mansion

Our journey began as we traveled to San Jose, California. Hayes Mansion, an incredible estate dating back to 1905, was the perfect setting for this memorable event. With its Mediterranean Revival architecture, intricate woodwork, and grand furnishings, the mansion brought a sense of elegance to every corner.

As we explored, the mansion’s unique details stood out. From exquisite wallpapers to the antique wood finishes, each space sparked design inspiration. The vibrant colors and classic architecture set the stage for the wedding, blending historic beauty with the lively energy of the celebration.

The Sangeet: A Night of Colors, Music, and Dance

The wedding festivities began with the Sangeet, held on Saturday night. We had just arrived in town, rushing to wrap ourselves in sarees—a first for some of us! My sister Caitlin, a fashion and graphic designer, designed the event’s graphics, including posters, signage, and henna stations. Her unique style added a personal, artistic touch to every element.

The energy at the Sangeet was unforgettable. Guests arrived from across the country, and the night was filled with music, dancing, and laughter. Family and friends enjoyed the henna, delicious food, and beautifully crafted decorations. Every detail was vibrant, reflecting the joy and excitement of the evening.

The Wedding Ceremony: Tradition and Celebration

Sunday brought the main wedding ceremony. We started early to prepare, with Caitlin looking stunning in an outfit accented by fresh flowers woven into her hair. The ceremony took place outdoors under a bright California sun, casting a glow over everyone’s colorful attire. Surrounded by ornate decor and blooming flowers, the setting was picture-perfect.

The ceremony was filled with tradition and family involvement. A live saxophone and drum accompanied the event, filling the air with music. My mom, sisters, and I had the honor of participating in several ceremonies, which felt both beautiful and meaningful. Each moment celebrated not only Caitlin and her husband but also the joining of two families and two cultures.

Discover Kauai’s Unique Design and Island Charm

Exploring Kauai’s Unique Island Design and Vibe

When my family and I arrived in Kauai, the “Garden Isle,” we were ready for an adventure filled with design inspiration and natural beauty. Known for its lush rainforests, serene beaches, and towering cliffs, Kauai is unlike anywhere else. The island has a unique vibe—quieter than Maui or Oahu—making it the perfect escape. Each corner of Kauai seemed to offer Kauai design inspiration, blending laid-back design and functional beauty that reflects the island’s heart and personality.

Our journey started right at the airport, where a colorful sign with a bold serif font for “Kauai” greeted us. The choice of cursive for the rest of the text and the warm colors instantly set a welcoming, island feel. These subtle design touches hinted at the artistry and Kauai design inspiration we would see across the island.

Relaxing at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Hotel

For our stay, we chose the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Hotel, which offered all we needed for both relaxation and fun. With its easy beach access, inviting pools, and delightful dining spots, it was ideal. Traveling in September meant fewer tourists, making our beach days quiet and peaceful. The hotel even had torches and bonfires in the evenings, creating a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. In every detail, the hotel’s design seemed perfectly in tune with Kauai design inspiration, blending effortlessly with the island’s natural beauty.

Taking in Kauai’s Beach and Wildlife Design

One of our favorite spots was Poipu Beach, known for its family-friendly atmosphere and local wildlife. We were lucky enough to see two turtles resting on the sand and even a monk seal. To protect these beautiful creatures, Kauai’s wildlife team placed signs around them, designed with bright yellow backgrounds and seal silhouettes that instantly communicated caution. These signs were both functional and visually appealing, keeping visitors informed and respectful, and adding another layer of Kauai design inspiration.

Even the beach safety signs had a unique touch, with bold fonts and weathered shapes giving them character. The “Warning” sign, in particular, stood out with a distinct wave silhouette, making it easy to spot and understand. Every detail seemed to be considered, reflecting the island’s balance of beauty and safety, and adding to the Kauai design inspiration that guided the way.

Exploring Kauai’s Local Shops and Eclectic Signage

Kauai’s shops and markets added more charm to our trip. One memorable spot was a small, family-owned fruit stand, decked out with handmade signs and a storefront shaped like a pineapple. Despite the mismatched “Coconut Corner” signs, the overall effect was welcoming and playful. The hand-painted letters added a touch of vintage flair, while the thick, puffy letters made everything feel inviting and added to our Kauai design inspiration.

We also spotted creative designs at various eateries, like the playful logos at Island Taco and Monico’s restaurant. Each sign seemed to reflect the unique flavor of Kauai’s local businesses, from the hand-drawn details to vibrant color choices that blended beautifully with the tropical surroundings, offering fresh Kauai design inspiration in every detail.

The Majestic Views of Waimea Canyon

Our Kauai adventure would not have been complete without a visit to Waimea Canyon. Known as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” this awe-inspiring sight offered breathtaking views of red and green layers of volcanic rock. Even on a rainy day, the views were unforgettable. Though we opted to admire the scenery from lookouts rather than hike, the canyon’s natural design provided endless Kauai design inspiration. Every twist and turn of the landscape seemed to tell a story of Kauai’s powerful and peaceful beauty.

Reflecting on Kauai’s Functional, Island-Infused Design

Throughout our trip, I was impressed by how Kauai design inspiration seamlessly fit the island lifestyle. At our resort, we received keycard bracelets, making it easy to enjoy the beach without worrying about losing room keys. The simplicity of these small design details made our experience feel easy and worry-free. Even at the beach, the minimalist pool chairs and uncluttered surroundings highlighted Kauai’s emphasis on simple, functional beauty.

Food Truck on Kauai

This trip showed me that Kauai’s charm is about so much more than its scenery. The island’s thoughtful design details, from handcrafted signs to seamless functionality, created an atmosphere where nature and creativity coexisted beautifully, inspiring Kauai design inspiration for travelers, artists, and nature lovers alike.

How Make Art That Sells Changed My Art Business

Why Make Art That Sells is a Must-Read for Artists

If you’re looking to grow your art career, Make Art That Sells is the book that can transform your journey. The moment I picked it up, I knew this compact book held the key to unlocking the potential of my creative work. Written by Carina Gardner, Make Art That Sells not only provides practical advice but also challenges the outdated “starving artist” myth. As someone who once believed in that myth, I can say this book was truly a game-changer.

Right from the start, Make Art That Sells offers clear, actionable steps to build a thriving art business. It’s designed for artists at every stage, whether you’re just starting or looking to expand. I personally began reading this book when I was still figuring out how to turn my artistic passion into something more than a hobby. The book walked me through each stage of the journey, from identifying my unique style to targeting the right audience.

artist business tips, art business success, selling artwork, turning art into a business

One of the standout features of Make Art That Sells is the formula that Carina introduces. This formula enabled me to see my art through the lens of a business, rather than just as creative expression. In doing so, it helped me evaluate my work critically and identify new market opportunities. More importantly, the book taught me how to ask myself essential questions: What medium best suits my work? What themes resonate with my audience? These questions became the foundation for defining my own artistic voice.

Additionally, Carina’s step-by-step guidance makes the process of selling art feel attainable. She breaks down the complexities of the art market into bite-sized, actionable strategies. Whether you’re focused on painting, digital art, or another medium, you’ll learn how to position your work for success. One of my favorite aspects of the book is how Carina simplifies what can often feel like an overwhelming process, helping you see the bigger picture of your art business.

For me, the Make Art That Sells formula was a major turning point. It completely shifted how I approach my art career. Before, I saw my creative work as something separate from business—now I view it as an integral part of a sustainable career. I no longer feel like I have to sacrifice financial stability to do what I love. Instead, the book has helped me build a bridge between passion and profit.

Looking back, I realize how much Make Art That Sells has influenced my path as a designer. It’s not just a book—it’s a roadmap that helped me gain clarity about my goals, my audience, and how to grow a successful business. It also reignited my joy for creating, knowing that my art can both inspire and sustain me.

If you’re ready to take your art to the next level, Make Art That Sells is the perfect companion. It equips you with the tools and mindset needed to turn your creative dreams into a thriving, meaningful business. And that, in my experience, has been priceless.

Direct-to-Film Printing Trends

Direct-to-film (DTF) printing trend has emerged as a game-changer in the world of garment customization. 2025 promises even more advancements. Heat Press Nation highlights DTF’s rising popularity and its growing impact on custom garment printing.

You can listen to the full episode on the Make and Design Podcast with Carina Gardner. Her interview with Jared Barbosa from Heat Press Nation revealed what to expect in 2025.

Listen to Episode 488 What is Hot in 2024 and 2025 and Black Friday Deals with Heat Press Nation here: (link coming soon) www.makeandesign.com

You can also watch the episode by going to youtube at (link coming soon) www.youtube.com/carinagardner

DTF Printing’s Unique Appeal

DTF printing has set itself apart from other methods with impressive durability and quality. Unlike traditional techniques, DTF creates vibrant prints that resist fading and cracking. Heat Press Nation describes DTF as “the biggest shift in garment customization,” especially because it produces sharp colors on dark fabrics, where sublimation falls short.

By applying a white base layer under each design, DTF ensures colors pop on darker materials, offering a crisp look that print shops love. This feature opens up creative possibilities and produces results that make custom garments stand out.

DTF printing equipment DTF vs. sublimation Custom garment printing trends Heat Press Nation

Broader Customization Capabilities

DTF printing goes beyond shirts, expanding customization to items like hats, bags, and even non-fabric surfaces. Heat Press Nation explains that this versatility unlocks new revenue streams for print shops and hobbyists alike. For smaller shops, DTF presents a simple way to diversify products without investing in a dedicated printer. They can order custom DTF transfers and apply them with a heat press—an ideal solution for businesses or startups on a budget.

Affordability and Accessibility

DTF’s affordability also drives its appeal. Today, entry-level DTF printers start at around $2,400, creating an accessible pathway for small businesses eager to enter the custom print market. Heat Press Nation points out that with high reliability and low costs, DTF has attracted new users who value high-quality, full-color prints without the hefty price tag of other methods.

DTF printing equipment DTF vs. sublimation Custom garment printing trends Heat Press Nation

A Promising Future for DTF Printing

As 2025 unfolds, DTF printing will likely grow even more efficient, vibrant, and versatile. Heat Press Nation predicts a continued rise in demand, as more creators discover the benefits of flexible, fast, and high-quality garment customization.

For those interested in DTF, now offers the perfect time to explore this cost-effective, flexible printing solution. With a winning mix of quality, convenience, and adaptability, DTF printing stands poised to lead custom garment printing in 2025.

Nutcracker Themed Holiday Crafting

Love nutcracker themed holiday crafting? This Christmas craft focuses on holiday fun with the Nutcracker, Soldier, Rat King, Clara, and the Sugar Plum Fairy. It’s the season to get crafty with your die-cutting machine and deck out your space for Christmas! This year, I’m inspired by the Nutcracker and designed an easy stacked box trio that brings holiday cheer with minimal effort.

Holiday fun comes to life in this project with characters like the Nutcracker, Soldier, Rat King, Clara, and the Sugar Plum Fairy, each featured on different sides of the boxes. By designing five total characters, I arranged them across two box sets, though you could select just four for a single box set.

Creating this project with Nutcracker characters was such a joy! Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy add plenty of charm, and the mischievous Rat King and steadfast Soldier bring playful energy to this holiday decor.

Tracey Rinaldo’s Creative Odyssey with Design Suite

Tracey Rinaldo, an entrepreneur and creative designer, met with Carina Gardner and discussed her path to profit with her small business being brought to life through the tips and tricks of Design Suite. Tracey has a unique story tailored to those who are already small business owners, creators of physical and digital art, and people who are looking for the resources necessary to take their creative dreams to the next level.

“My journey has kind of been long and twisted,” Tracey explains, “I’ve been a creative all my life, I just never followed it… This whole thing started with a hair bow, [my daughter and I] went to a little craft show, but I couldn’t let her just sell a hair bow, so I took a bunch of things that I was sewing and then after that I was like ‘I would really love to transition from what I’m doing now to being creative full-time, because this is where my heart is. So I didn’t know where to go, what to do, I just had my little small business side, but I knew I couldn’t replace my income with handmade stuff, I just didn’t have enough time in the day… So I took a few courses… somehow you just appeared, and then I started looking into it, and I was a little bit hesitant because I had been in other online courses and it was just like so many people, so busy… So I ended up in your bootcamp… you acknowledged me and I was like ‘what?!’… I had all the pieces except it was like my puzzle was missing something, and the missing something was selling things and getting off the ground that way. So it was just a bonus that your courses are amazing. I’m in Design Suite and the Mastermind and there are a zillion courses for everything, I seriously can do everything you’ve got.”

As Tracey continued to explain her starting story in the Design Suite program over the podcast, it was nothing short of remarkable. The passion and desire were there to do more with the small business she had started. That’s how she found success in Design Suite and how she started making money.

“I started my business in 2022, so I spent that first year/year and a half just kind of floundering… and then it wasn’t until July that I took the bootcamp, so at the end of July is when I found you. And since July, it’s been a night and day difference,” Tracey states to Carina. Design Suite truly is the tool needed to give people that jumpstart and action on implementing their dreams to real life. Tracey found more effective ways of putting her business out there through the tips and tricks taught in the bootcamps and Design Suite programs.

Tracey also talks about the growth and experience gained from attending craft fairs.  “The only one that’s going to get me out there is me… Every show that I do I take something away from it,” she explains. At these fairs, she began to show and display her favorite designs to sell, the custom pet portraits. Tracey has always loved drawing animals, and choosing to further her business by making portraits for people has not only been extremely fun for her, but her target market benefits greatly from the personalized items they receive when they buy from her. Design Suite was able to give her that confidence to keep going to the shows, and even when no sales are made, to leave with more knowledge and insights gained from the people she has met. Her resilience and willingness to keep trying has brought her great fulfillment and success through her journey, and that really is the key. As Carina explains in the podcast, “You’re getting information faster than if you were on just a platform.” Those in person events prove determination to learn more and get your business out there.

Overall, Tracey Rinaldo’s interview on Carina Gardner’s podcast is a must-listen for anyone who is seeking the opportunity to make money off of their creative designs, and find ways to get their work seen by the world. Her story serves as a reminder that with dedication, resilience, and courage, anything is possible. Anyone can be a designer if they put their mind to it, and anyone can make money off of their creations if they are willing to put in the effort to make it happen. Design bootcamps and Design Suite are perfect resources to look into to make those dreams into realities!

Turning Creativity into Cash: Simone Bowles’ Profitable Journey with Design Suite

Simone Bowles, a two-year Design Suite member, discusses with Carina Gardner about the incredible success and money she has made after joining the program in this podcast. She begins by talking about how she chose a career that was not quite creative enough for her.

Simone states, “I read this book by Julia Donaldson called the Artist’s Way, and she said that a lot of people who were creative go into careers that are almost creative.” In a world brimming with opportunities, the journey of fulfilling one’s creative and entrepreneurial aspirations can often feel like a daunting task. Simone took a leap of faith that many are afraid to do, leaving her past career and pursuing her creative dreams by joining the Design Suite program, tailored for aspiring designers who want to make money with their creations.

“In terms of actual graphic design, I knew nothing,” Simone explains, “I came from a world that was so different. [I felt like] the imposter, like ‘how am I going to do this?’ …But then I [remembered] that they chose me for a reason… It grew me in so many ways… and if you were to ask me the year before ‘would I do freelance graphic design’, it would be a definite no… I thought it would be so hard.”

Simone went into the program with hardly any experience of creative design. However, as the process went on for her, passion was ignited, breathing life into her artistic visions. She quickly found a love for what she was doing. She explained that, “This is for me, I want all of the things,” as the program went on for her. After the first year of the program, there was so much that Simone learned. She felt the strong desire to continue for another year, allowing her to make lots of money from this. “Honestly I feel like I can call myself a designer now… once you do, the jobs come!” Opportunity was met with hard work, and Simone’s work took off.

When talking about her success, Simone stated, “Just be open to the path that [comes] to you. If you try to go down one road you get so much resistance… I made the money within my second year [of the program]… I made enough to pay for the kids’ school tuition which isn’t cheap… and that was in my second year!”

After the decision was made to pursue this dream of Simone’s, she was rewarded. Design Suite is the catalyst for inspiration to make money, and Simone did just that in her second year of the journey. She was extremely grateful and emotional over the success she has reaped in the podcast when explaining the money she made to pay for the tuition of her kids’ educations. You truly get what you pay for when you join the Design Suite courses, along with opportunity and fulfillment bursting at the seams.

Not only did Simone make a great amount of money, she also built incredible relationships with those in the Design Suite community, which is huge. Simone goes on to say, “It’s key… I just know people I can go to who are now friends of mine… in the sewing world… in the patent world… in the papercraft world… that is gold.” She continues by saying, “There’s so many things [that make Design Suite good value]… It really is the community and the information… Design Suite has those supports.”

From all across the globe, there are members of the Design Suite program, and these members build one another up, offer advice, help, and friendship, taking things to a more meaningful level through this program. This brings that human connection that is missing in a lot of programs.

The opportunities are endless when becoming a member of Design Suite and embarking on the journey, allowing for personal and professional growth. The program serves as a catalyst for self-discovery, empowering individuals to leverage their strengths and carry out their niches in the creative landscape. Simone Bowles is an excellent example of this coming to reality.

To access Simone’s business and creations, you can follow her on Instagram: @_simonebowles_  or find her on Etsy: SBPARTYPRINTABLES.

April 2023 Ink Club Room Makeover!

I always love a good room makeover and this month I am showing you a botanical makeover I did for my daughter. First I removed everything from the room and put on a fresh coat of paint.

I rearranged the room and bought these great leaf squares from Ikea that I covered one wall with. I also bought picture hangers to put lots of frames on.

I made most of the wall art with vinyl that you can find in the April 2023 Ink Club Bundle. I also used heat transfer to make some custom pillows so that that botanical theme was throughout the room.

Here’s the before and here’s the after. And by the way, she loved it!

Hope you enjoyed this room makeover!
